The purpose of the blog is to empower others through our transparency and faith. We hope to create a culture of unity, love, and hope through our stories. Articles outside of the reviews category should be between 750-1,200 words in length, Tahoma font, 1.5 spacing submitted in a Word document. Here are a few tips to be aware of before writing your article:

. Be Real. Not Perfect. People will connect most with your authenticity. You can inspire without knowing all of the answers.

. Speak to Your Audience Intentionally. Audience is key in any form of writing, so consider who it is that you wish to inspire. Why are you writing? What would you say to a younger version of yourself?

. Embrace Your Unique Voice. Everyone will not always like what you have to say, but be encouraged and stay true to yourself!

Topic

Every month I will choose a different topic to get your creative juices flowing, but you do not have to stick to that particular topic. You may write about current events in the world or your life, but make sure you are always able to relate it back to you. Your contribution to the website is about your opinion, your feelings, your knowledge, your wisdom, your journey, your growth.

Arrangement

The art of persuasion through logos, pathos and ethos is valuable to rhetorical writing. Although we depend heavily on the emotions, values and imagination of LP readers (pathos), the credibility of the writer (ethos) and the ability to persuade your audience through reason (logos) are imperative tools in effective writing.

Pet Peeves

While we do try to respect every writer’s individual voice, clarity does matter. We loosely follow the guidelines of the Prentice Hall Reference Guide (9th Edition) when editing. Please try to avoid the following:

. Comma Splice

. Buried Subjects

. Dangling Modifiers

. Interjections

Here are a few tips on writing conversationally.

Reviews

The review section is for any type of media (book, film, album, TV series) that you would recommend or not recommend. Connect to your audience using ethos (your credibility), logos (how thorough and logical the review is), and pathos (your treatment of the reader through your discourse).

The first paragraph should introduce the reader to the content and should contain:

. Title of media

. Author’s full name

. Publication date

. Purpose (if this is not a given, you may argue its purpose. Is it simply to tell a story or is there a more argumentative/persuasive purpose)?

The body should contain a brief summary before you begin thoroughly evaluating (quote, paraphrase, analyze, synthesize) the media.
